Ly Hong is 3 years old. Both mother and father are garment factory workers and live in Kampong Speu province. Ly Hong could not hear noise or voice around him since birth, told his mother, Chan Noeun. Noeun was worried about Hong’s ear problem since she noticed that Hong could not hear when she speaks to him. She remembered that Hong did not respond to any noise, voice around him like other babies did. Over the past 3 years, Noeun and her husband have been looking for places to cure Hong’s ear disease.
In late August 2017, traveling on motorbike passing the front gate of Chey Chumneah Hospital and saw a banner of IMPACT-Cambodia announcing that Impact Nepal will conduct a surgical week from 2nd to 6th September for ENT disease free of charge at Chey Chumneah Hospital.
Chan Noeun brought Hong to meet ENT Doctor at the camp to have Hong’s ear examined. Hong was recommended to get a hearing aid to help him. IC audiogram Unit team conducted a hearing test for Hong, which is different for the hearing test for adult. Hong was happy because, now he can hear he look around to find the source of the voice. He threw the ball when he hears a sound from the audiogram machine. We then made appointment with ALL Ears which took one month to make hearing aid for Ly Hong. Hong can not speak. We referred Hong to CCAMH for speech therapy to learn to speak. We hope that Hong will learn to speak and not to be too late for him to go to school.
