Barong is one of the most vulnerable communes that IMPACT Cambodia has selected as a new target area of 1000 Day Programme. It is located in Lvea Em District, Kandal Province. We can see that it is like a small island in the middle of the Mekong River by looking from the distance. At the present, the whole commune is surrounded by water. During the rainy season, it is completely flooded. Travel can be done only by boat.

- There are two villages in Barong Commune: Barong and Khnoa Kar
IMPACT Cambodia will be implementing 1000 Day Programme in Barong Commune as from this year. Barong Health center was built in 2010. The villagers of Barong commune come to Barong Health Center to receive some basic health service and treatment. Delivery at Barong health centre is from 7 to 15 cases per month. Most of pregnant women choose to go to Prey Veng province by boat for delivery due to inadequate delivery materials, and lack of proper place for post delivery. Barong health centre is not the only one health centre in Cambodia, which face this difficulty. We met 13 pregnant women who came to register in IC 1000 Day Programme. One of them has never had any prenatal checkup since her first child. This is her third pregnancy.
1000 Day Programme will be implementing in Barong commune in cooperation with Lvea Em Operational District, Kandal province.
