IMPACT Cambodia has provided 75 water filters to 75 families from 2 villages: 35 water filters for the families in Damnak Reach and 40 water filters for the families in Koh Tamov. These two villages face the difficulties of not having clean water to use compared to other two villages. Damnak Reach is 15 kilometers away from Koh Tamov village and travelling can only be done by boat. It takes 2 hours to reach Damnak Reach village. When they came to receive water filter from IC, 12 people took one boat by sharing 3000riels (0.75 cents) each for the petroleum fee.
Kampong Preah Korki Commune is located in Boribo District, Kampong Chhnang Province, a branch of Tonle Sap Lake. There are four villages in this commune: Koh Tamov, Damnak Reach, Stoeng Chrov, and Prek Pean. The number of total population is 2233 which is divided into 479 families. The living condition of people in that area is poor. They catch fish for their daily living in rainy season and work as farmer in dry season.
People from three villages (Damnak Reach, Stoeng Chrov and Prek Pean) live in the floating houses in rainy season, whereas in Koh Tamov village, people live in floating houses only in rainy season. They really have difficulties in finding clean water. They drink water directly from the river without boiling.
People were very thankful and happy to receive it. The Head of Kampong Preah Korki Commune has proposed IMPACT Cambodia to continue providing water filters to all 479 families.
